Mica Gallery presents 'The Brit Pak' as part of 'Asian Art in London'. The exhibition reflects the very best of emerging contemporary British Pakistani art and culture, an area that has largely evolved in response to, and as a result of, the key political and cultural moments in recent history. The last few decades, the search for one of the most wanted figures in recent history being found in Pakistan, has raised a whole host of issues challenging the Pakistani identity. The Brit Pak versus Native Pak adds yet another layer of complexity to the creative and cultural output both in Pakistan and Britain, at once in harmony and yet polarised by finer cultural nuances, with an ongoing frisson between culture, business and wider society. This exhibition attempts to capture and showcase the positive contributions that have emerged from the Pakistani diaspora, art & culture, politics and economics and juxtapose these with the polarization of a community caused by a media onslaught aligning 'the Pakistani' with negative stereotypes resulting in the simmering of the bold, confident and new art movement 'The Brit Pak'. The show is an observation and dialogue between Eastern and Western perceptions of emerging British Pakistani art. Artists include; Nurjan, Khaver Idrees, Shafaq Ahmed, Faiza Shaikh, Maaida Noor, Mansoora Hassan, Aisha Caan, Sofia Niazi, Ammar Syed, Ayesha Amjad, Nasreen Raja, Yasmin Kathrada, Zahir Rafiq, Asif Ghayaz, MA Bukhari, Javed Qamer, Rachel Wilberforce and Ahad Mustafa.

Mica Gallery is hosting ‘From Facebook to Nassbook’ a showcase of contemporary Egyptian art, culture and thought (6th July - 8th September 2011)
Borrowing its title from the recent historical “People’s Revolution” in Egypt, the exhibition examines the use of social networking as an aid in enlisting and equipping citizens with information via the internet and follows how the Egyptian government’s intervention to disable internet resulted in a truly people’s revolution that was entirely communicated through the word of mouth, hence Nassbook - ‘nass’ being the Egyptian-Arabic word for people. Also on view will be a series of installation and mixed media works that explore the contemporary society in Egypt pre-revolution and continue with the theme of ‘revolt’ post-revolution. The exhibition will serve as an archive for recent groundbreaking historical events with artists and artworks functioning as a form of visual cultural commentary, thus providing audiences to engage with relevant and cutting edge artworks for the first time in London.
The showcase will celebrate Egyptian food, architecture, art, jewellery, film, music, intellectual thought, literature offering children’s activities, an introduction to Arab instruments, short courses, women’s only day and networking evening, internship opportunities and business exchange bringing together some of the leading 100 businessmen/women in the UK and Egypt.
