Aisha Caan is a London based artist who expresses her thoughts and experiences through the medium of painting. Influenced by faith and science, her work is centred on the Creation of the Universe and its Creator. After a successful career as a fashion designer she became a lecturer at the London College of Fashion before embarking on her painting studies, which culminated in the award of a Masters Degree from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. She now has a professional devotion to the practice of Fine Art.
Aisha does not attempt to replicate nature, but to convey what it represents. She paints shapes and forms to reference certain aspects of the creation of the universe. Each canvas is a window, looking out onto every aspect of God’s creation and to avoid literal description, she camouflages appearance through layers of colour and Arabic calligraphy. Her work comprises a series of paintings that include: The Big Bang, The Splitting of the Heavens & The Earth, Elements of Nature and the Cosmic series.
Aisha hopes to bring to light the similarities between science and all the world’s religions, in particular the links between the three Abrahamic religions. There is a myth about their unity, but for Aisha, this unity exists as she feels that there is an element of spirituality in each of these three disciplines, which is the essence of her work.
