| Shafaq Ahmad was born and raised in Pakistan. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree at the Punjab University in Lahore, she left Pakistan at age 20 and lived in England, Iran and Denmark before settling in the United States. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia in 1991. The following year she opened an interior design studio/art gallery, Interior Dynamics, Inc., in Richmond, Virginia, which she operated until moving to Texas in 2002. During this time she designed art glass for Barovier & Toso in Czech Republic from 1995 to 2002, where she worked closely with the glass masters to create hand blown art objects. Her work was represented in the ‘Ambiente, Frankfurt Germany International Fair’, and the ‘New York International Gift Fair’, among other venues. Her designs have been produced by Ajeto Studio, Studio Hut Charlotta, Studio Hut Prince in the Czech Republic and Studio Lindshammar, in Sweden. After moving to Texas, Ahmad pursued her interest in art at North Lake Community College in Irving and Brookhaven Community College in Dallas, by studying painting, printmaking and photography from 2006 to 2009. She is currently completing a Master of Fine Arts degree in studio arts at Texas Christian University, in Fort Worth. After she finishes her MFA program in the spring of 2011, she plans to move into her own studio, where she would continue to paint, and keep experimenting with other media to make her work.
